Principal Mining Engineer

Location: Calgary, Alberta

The Natural Resources business unit currently has a strategic opportunity available for a Principal Open Pit Mining Engineer in their Calgary office. The successful candidate will report to the Manager Mining and this position has responsibility for the management, business development, supervision and training of junior mine engineering staff to perform engineering and planning services for client and the company’s projects in the matters of mine design and costing functions expertise during feasibility studies.

Responsibilities

• Managing the execution of studies and projects to provide world class quality results to clients

• Ensuring all projects and studies are completed on time and on budget, as well as in a manner consistent with the company and client quality standards

• Providing specialist technical input, leadership and management on projects

• Performing peer review and senior review duties for work performed by other team members

• Mentoring and training junior personnel to prepare individuals as well as teams to take on additional roles and responsibilities

• Playing a key role in business development activities by establishing and maintaining client relationships and developing business leads and work opportunities

• Soliciting work and preparing proposals and bids for all levels of study and engineering projects

• Ensuring that work under your supervision is an integral part of the global mining team

• Supporting continuous development of cost and design databases

• Participating in development of standards and procedures and in special interest groups

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor degree in mining engineering from a recognized college or university

• Eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta

• More than 12 years’ experience in operations and engineering roles of increasing responsibility in the mining and consulting industry, with focus on open pit mining

• Proven technical skills in various aspects of open pit mine design

• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

• Project and engineering management experience

• Budgeting, estimating, and scheduling experience

• Working knowledge of mine planning software such as MineSight, XPAC, Gemcom, Datamine for open pit projects

• Ability and willingness to travel to both domestic and international project sites, for varying durations and at times to remote locations.

Senior Coal Geologist

Location: Calgary, Alberta

The Natural Resources business unit currently has a strategic opportunity available for a Senior Geologist in their Calgary office. The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Mining and this position has to provide technical leadership on projects, studies and audits as well as providing project support across the business.

Responsibilities

• Local and international studies ranging from conceptual through to feasibility.

• Reviews and audits of exploration and pre-development programs

• Developing and review of geological models in support of resource estimates

• Performing variography and grade interpolation as well as verification and validation of resource models

• Performing grade control and reconciliation studies

• Site inspections and procedural audits

• Peer review of studies and reports

• Project and study management

• Project evaluations and risk assessments

• Sign off Mineral Resources under relevant codes such as JORC or NI-43101

• Ensuring professional development of technical and administrative staff

• Actively supporting business development activities through participation in conferences, direct business development activities and strategic client relationship management.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (Geology) from a recognized college or university

• Registered Geologist or eligibility to register with a relevant professional association (APEGGA, AusIMM, SAIMM, AIG, AIME)

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in exploration geology with a focus on mineral deposit evaluation

• Exposure to both open pit and underground operations an advantage

• Previous exposure to the consulting environment will be seen as an advantage

• Previous experience with Coal is as an advantage

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Advanced technical report writing skills

• Experience in computerized resource estimation and ore body modeling with a proven record of technical competence

• Fluency in the operation of major modeling software packages; such as Datamine, MineSight, Gemcom or Vulcan.

• Knowledge of National Instrument (NI) 43-101 or Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) codes with the ability to serve on mineral reserves as a Qualified Person

• Ability and willingness to travel to both domestic and international project sites, for varying durations and at times to remote locations.

Engineering Geologist

Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist

Your present skills include:

Minimum of 5+ years related experience in some or all of the following:

-Organizing and implementing site investigations with a variety of drilling and sampling methods

-Participated in site exploration, tailings dam design, mine and/or tailings planning, mine pit slope design, embankment dams, foundation engineering

-Demonstrated technical leadership abilities/experience with a commitment to technical excellence

-Project management skills and experience would be an asset • -Field logging of boreholes and field assessments of terrain instabilities • Terrain analysis, including air photograph interpretation • Stability analysis of natural slopes

Foundation design of small to medium oil and gas facilities

Pipeline crossing designs, including horizontal directional drilling and open-cut

Qualifications:

-Bachelors degree in related Geotechnical or Engineering Geology fields

-Registered or qualified to register as a Professional Engineer in Canada

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

-Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision

-Track record as an effective team player with good interpersonal skills

-Availability to travel within Western Canada, primarily Alberta and B.C.

Intermediate Hydrogeologist

Mechanical Engineer

Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (Oil & Gas)

This role will give you the opportunity to:

-Be part of a group of multi-disciplinary engineers

-Work on multiple projects with clients from conceptual to design (design, engineering studies, feasibility studies and condition assessments) and through construction and commissioning stages

-Mentor junior staff and create and develop teams

-Work closely with the client and contractors throughout the various project stages

We require you to have:

-Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent and working towards (or be eligible for) P.Eng. in Alberta with 5+ years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry, mostly in North America

-Effective verbal and written English communication skills

-Alberta drivers license

As an intermediate mechanical engineer you will already have a wealth of knowledge and experience. While developing your existing knowledge we will help you refine those skills and give you valuable new ones. Within your existing engineering skills we would ideally like you to have experience with some (or all!) of the following industry specific skills:

-Project management of teams and large projects

-Proven ability to work effectively with clients, a team of professionals and support staff and to provide guidance to junior team members

-Compile or participate in construction work packages including interdisciplinary design and review

-Prepare technical specifications and tender packages for mechanical systems and materials, technical selection, calculation, sizing and evaluation of piping, rotating and stationary equipment and material handling

-Knowledgeable with latest revision of ASME B31.3, CSA Z662 and Canadian regulatory codes

-Experience participating in HAZOP reviews, or similar experience

-Prepare equipment specifications/data sheets, layout and design of mechanical equipment for industrial plants and related infrastructure

-Experience with piping system design and construction (including tailings and slurry and/or refinery), stationary and rotating equipment

-Experience in designing and developing PFD’s, P&ID’s, isometrics and orthograhics

-Review vendor designs, submissions, drawings and mechanical details and interface data

-Direct activities to ensure that construction, installation and operational commissioning meet recognized codes and standards and customer requirements

-Evaluate the desired goal of a system and develop, design or select the appropriate equipment to achieve the clients target

-Wellsite/equipment layout experience

Senior Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeological Numerical Modelling
